A Leap of Faith

So, I've been selling online now, mostly through my Facebook Page; oddly enough and through my website. I have the occassional sale from Etsy here and there, so basically all my sales come from online. I've wanted to start coming out of my shell per-say and get in front of people so this past week, I found out some great news.  I've been accepted to be a vendor at my local Farmer's Market.

Now, at first I didn't even think about contacting them because when you think of a farmers market, you think veggies, food and flowers not jewelry. However, I clicked on the link to see when my farmers market was going to be open this year and I seen the comment, "Looking for craft artists" and I jumped all over it.

I'm super excited to take this leap and have a real live location every Saturday during the summer and fall months. It's in such a great heavily trafficked area so I am hoping, fingers crossed, that I will do very well there. The gig doesn't start up until May 7th so I have plenty of time to start loading up on inventory and putting together all my pieces for my summer collection. I really am hoping that this will provide me with the opportunity to get my jewelry and accessories seen out there and continue to be a great success for me.

It's definitely going to be out of my comfort zone to sell in person to people because I don't want to be a pushy sales person because that is not who I am. So I am still brainstorming ideas of how I can be sure that if someone walks into my booth that they will walk away with a nice little something. I know this is going to take some time to adjust though but I am sure that it's going to work out lovely for me.

Be sure to check me out at the Shelby Township Farmers Market from 9am-2pm starting May 7th.

Beautiful Treasury By Etsian Angelos Treasures

I woke up this morning to a pleasent e-mail letting me know that my beautiful romantic baby pink choker necklace was featured in an Etsy Treasury. Seeing the title, A Garden For You was a nice site considering we just got almost a foot of snow overnight. So this was a very nice treasury to look at. I always get super excited to see what other items are featured. Some people do such a fabulous job of putting these together.

This one by Angelos Treasures is so beautiful. I'm so excited to be apart of this amazing collection. She did a beautiful job of putting all these beautiful pieces together.

Be sure to head on over to Angelos Treasures and let me know that Kaliah Designs sent you over. Stay warm and think spring :)

My studio

The long awaited pictures of my studio are here. Now be warned, my space is nothing to get all excited over as I have not painted the room. Ee're still in limbo because we are renters to this condo and although we're on a long term rental agreement and can paint, I am just not sure if I want to invest the money into paint right now. So for now, this is what my creative space looks like.

Office Area:

Of course I have to my achievement area:
Top row is bachelors degree, national honor's society certificate, grad picture and then family graduation picture along with the rest of my jewelry collection on the bottom two rows.

So that is my space for now. I really do hope to get a big house and have like an entire basement or perhaps one of those bonus rooms at the top of your house, (actually I think I prefer a bonus room rather than a basement for natural light) to be able to create in and make it my own space. Every time I look in the Where Women Create book or magazine, I just die and fall out of my chair looking at the beautiful spaces that other women have created to work in. Well now you see where this creator works up those beautiful pieces of jewelry and accessories.

When I started drafting this blog, I was all over the place. I started blabbing about what I wanted to be before I started this jewelry gig and how I hated my job before and then I deleted it all because I just thought, "what the hell am I writing," and then I went on to write about how I want to be a self-made millionaire than I was just like this is absolutely ridiculous. I'm leaving the self-made millionaire to my husband. So then I was just like let me tell my fans what my dreams are, any dreams business related and personal.  So here we go.....

I dream to have a big beautiful house with that huge kitchen that I've mentioned before.
Then a huge room to do all my work in.
That house will have a lot of room to entertain in too.

I dream that I'm known for creating and designing the next best thing!

I dream that we have beautiful children that we set a good example for.

I dream that I can have my children photographed in cute little outfits for all there birthdays, holidays and just because by this fabulous local photographer: Sarah Lindsey Photography

I dream my children will be able to grow up knowing we did this all for them (and for mom and dad).

I dream that every year just my husband and I take a luxurious vacation, just like we did on our honeymoon.

I dream that we have a vacation home up north off the water of Lake Michigan.

Finally, I dream that in 5 years, I can pull this list out while I dine in a fabulous restaurant with my husband and say, "See we did it" :)

So those are all my dreams.. how do I achieve them? By working so incredibly hard to get there, my husband I don't settle for just anything and we tell each other everyday we are going to get there. To have my partner be on the same page as me is the most rewarding part of my life right now because we both share the same dreams. Sure, we have our struggles right now as we try to get my business off the ground and running as well as my husbands, but we no the scarifies that we are making, are just going to get to those dreams.

Valentine's Day Fun

"Love is the condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own." ~Robert Heinlein

Regardless of what so many people's views on Valentine's Day are, I for one like to celebrate it.This Valentine's Day I had to babysit the kids at my place and I decided that we would still partake in it with doing a fun kid friendly activity. Anyone that knows me as their babysitter, knows that we do a lot of projects and even if they are young, I will try my hardest to get them to do it.

This year we made Valentine Rice Krispies. Isabelle who is 3 and Cass who is 18 months got to get all dirty and have some fun making yummy treats for our Valentine's.

Isabelle was very hands on, she put all the rice krispies in the bowl and even the marshmallows although a few were missing because this little guy kept eatting them.

I had so much making these treats with the kids because it was special to see there faces light up when we were all done. Experiencing the joy in little children is such a pleasure and as a hopeful mom-to-be, I can't wait to share these experiences with my own children. Just like my quote from the beginning of this blog explains that seeing another person happy is essential to your own, is very much true. These kids really did enjoy baking with me and didn't want to stop once everything was done. But unfortunately, I was tired after making these bad boys because I didn't realize that rice krispie treats harden up fast and we still had to cut hearts out of them. With two kids wanting to press the cuter down, that was not very fun :p

Our plate full of treats for mommy, us and my valentine - my husband <3

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip

Did you just fall out of your chair reading that title?? I did when my husband sent me a message with this title. Yes, my husband sent me this recipe earlier this because he had seen someone on his Facebook feed post this absolutely delicious recipe. So I have to give major thanks to the lovely Jessica over at the sweet eats blog.

This was such a quick and easy fix and what made it even more perfect, I didn't even have to trek out to get the ingredients because most of us keep all these handy items on hand.

All you need is:

1/2 cup butter
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 8-ounce block of cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cups chocolate chips

First, melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.

Then, add brown sugar and whisk until sugar dissolves and mixture starts to bubble. Set aside to cool, and whisk in vanilla.

Next, cream together cream cheese and powdered sugar for 60 seconds. With mixer on low speed, add in brown sugar and butter mixture. Mix until combined. I added the chocolate chips like the recipe called for at this time so the mixer could break them up into pieces. However, my kitchen aid didn't really break them apart too well. Oh well.

Finally, garnish with additional chopped chocolate. Serves with fruit, cookies, crackers, pretzels or a spoon.

Now doesn't that look yummy! I am making it to bring to my family ice-skating party tonight! Hopefully it's a big hit :)

Loving Fabric Flowers

Oh I have found a new love for fabric flowers!!! My mom got me hooked when she sent me over a link for Prima Flowers.. I went on to sign on and found out you had to have a minimum order of $200 to place an order and that is a bit steep for just small little jewelry business like myself, so then she told me I could head on over to Archiver's to view there selection!

And Look what I found there

I was just so excited to get a hold of these and start playing with them. Making necklaces with these was going to be new to me and was very excited to take on the challenge. They were super easy to work with and these are a few of the pieces that I came up with. Hope you love them! I am definitely interested in making my own fabric flowers now.. another crafty task to take on!

And then I made these cute little hair pins that already sold out on my Facebook Site before I could get them on Etsy

Tuesday Morning Thoughts

You ever have a bunch of thoughts running through head and so many ideas and things you feel you must concur! Yup, that is me about 90 percent of the time. The other 10 percent is thinking about how I am going to get all those thoughts to calm down!

Mr. Hockey and I have made the final decision to start looking for a bigger place. Our lease is up in our condo in September and we would really like to find a house. Our condo is just too small for us and we just need more space. We both are trying to run our own business and we have kids on the mind like crazy. We've been happily married now for 8 months now (seems much longer) and we really want to start a family and we know that it's just not possible to do so in the place that we are in now.

I had gone back and forth about the thought of having kids and there were days that I said no way not right now, but in all seriousness, we both love kids and just want to have one of our own. Were both ready to seriously settle down and experience the joy of having our own little family. My husband has secretly been hoping I'd come around because I can tell he wants to be a dad. Makes me smile just thinking how he acts with my little cousins and seeing him interact with them just puts me into full baby mode. All you mommy's out there no exactly what I mean.

There just comes a time in a woman's life when you finally see your husband truly enjoy the company of children and you stop to take it all in and wonder what it would be like if you had your own kids. Do not get me wrong I know that this will be the biggest challenge I face as a women because I know that it's not easy but I am ready to concur the challenge.

So to first get us to get to that step, we need to look for a house. We have some money saved and a ton of homes have just been released onto the market in our area. We most definitely want to stay where we are at now because we love this area and can not possible see ourselves moving away from here. I must be able to have some sort of work area as I will be running a business out of home and need to have my own space.. which brings me to my next topic..

How in the hell am I going to run my business and take care of a baby at the same time? Just like all the other working mom's out there working, expect I will still have the advantage of staying home and raising my child. I know I will get a ton of help from my mother because she is obsessed with being a grandma right now, so I am not worried about always having to be stuck with a baby and no time to work. Most of my new collection pieces are going to be easier to create and will allow me to get those pieces done when the baby is napping or at night time.  or of course when grandma comes over to visit.

Am I crazy for having all these feelings now or is it completely normal when your newly married, crazy in love and want it all :) Hey I am not getting any younger and either our are parents! I'm a strong women and believe that I can take it ALL on! I've been to college full time, worked full time and had a part time community service project all at the same time.. I know I can be wife, mother, daughter and business owner! :)

My Typical Mondays

Monday's usually are considered to be my off day. I don't usually create as it's my day to get office tasks done, clean up my studio, clean the house, do laundry, grocery shop and babysit my cousins children. Before i know it, it's time to make dinner and settle down to watch Monday night TV with Mr. Hockey.

I wanted to try and get atleast a few things done as far as creating goes but lately I just haven't had the time to do it before the kids get here. I think I need to start getting myself on a much better schedule system but its so hard to do that when my brain just functions creatively at all different times of the day. I'm trying to get myself to understand that I do need to take one day off to just get things done.

Maybe I could use Monday night or the morning whichever is easier, to just write up a weekly schedule?? That might help to keep me organized.. I will check back in a week and let you know how well I did :)

Am I crazy for not really allowing myself to just have just an off day?

Who wants a lemon square?

So it's definitely cold here in the D and rather then fighting the cold and surprise 3 inches of snow we got this evening, I tried out my baking skills again and made homemade lemon bar squares. My original intent was to make lemon meringue cupcakes (my mouth waters thinking about them) however, I did not have a candy thermometer that I needed to make the frosting and I didn't have a kitchen torch to give it the "professional" touch.. guess I better put those on my list, right?

Anyways, these bad boys were delish! Hubby enjoyed them very much and I am even thinking of adding them to my list of super bowl goodies to bring to the party tomorrow. I'm sure I will have to double everything up to make a bigger batch then just something like this:

We already polished off three of them before I thought of snapping a picture of them. I added a bit more lemon zest then the actual recipe called for because I had scrapped up a bit more than it called for and i didn't want it to go to waste! It was perfect, in fact it gave it a more lemony flavor and if you like lemon, you will really enjoy it.

I found the recipe while snooping around online here:

Giveaway Hiatus for Facebook

After giving this much thought and careful consideration, I will no longer be doing weekly giveaways on my Facebook Fan page. It was a rather difficult decision to make because I felt that FREE Friday giveaways was a fun way to distinguish myself from others. However, this decision has come based on the fact that I do not hear back from the majority of the winners and is rather a bit disappointing when you put in a lot of time and effort into creating something without getting any feedback. While I do appreciate those that have commented and said wonderful things, it is just not enough to continue on on a weekly business.

I do not want to entirely stop giveaways because it is not fair to those that truly like my work so instead, I will hold monthly giveaways from now on which will be through my blog. I will hold my first giveaway tomorrow night. Check back tomorrow for more details
